Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of paper should I use with my DayGlo inkjet cartridge?

The quality of a printed image is heavily dependent on the type of paper you are printing on. Therefore, it is important to consider the desired quality and application of the image you are printing. Here are a couple things to consider when choosing paper:
  1. In general, it is recommended that you use inkjet paper. This paper is designed to work best with your inkjet printer as it is formulated to absorb the water in the ink. Other papers do not absorb water as well, which will result in smearing.

  2. Weight. The weight of the paper is a measure of the quality of the paper. Therefore, heavier papers are recommended for your more demanding printing jobs. Weight ranges will usually fall into three categories:
    • 20 - 24 lb. -- Paper for everyday printing, copying, and faxing needs.
    • 24 - 50 lb. -- Paper for presentations, color printing, and photo imaging
    • 65 - 80 lb. -- Heavyweight papers for business cards, greeting cards, report covers, and brochures.

  3. Brightness. The brightness of a paper is an index of how much light a paper reflects. In general, the clarity and contrast of the printed image will improve as the brightness increases.
Here is a general index of paper brightness:
    • 84 - 90 -- Brightness for everyday printing, copying, and faxing needs
    • 90 - 99 -- Brightness for presentations, color printing, and photo imaging.

  4. Surface. The coating on the surface of the paper is dependent on both application and preference. The following can be used as a guideline for choosing inkjet paper:
    • Glossy Coated - This type of paper is used for premium or graphics applications such as full-color graphics and photos. A glossy finish refers to a coated paper with a glossy appearance. This type of finish will usually take longer to dry.
    • Matte Coated -- Used for premium or graphics applications such as charts or presentations. A matte finish refers to a coated paper with a bright, flat surface.
    • Plain -- Uncoated paper used for everyday printing, photocopying, and faxing needs (like a multipurpose paper). The quality of your printed image will not be as high when using a plain paper as it is not formulated to use with an inkjet printer. There is a tendency for the colors to "bleed" into each other when using plain paper.
    • Textured -- Papers used for premium or graphics applications such as invitations or special projects. Textured papers have a design embossed in the surface of the paper.

REMEMEBER: The settings in the printer menu should match the type of paper you are using. This will ensure that your printer is using the appropriate amount of ink.
